MBTA Customer Technology Team - Content Writer

The MBTA Customer Technology team is working to transform how people get around the Boston area. The MBTA Customer Technology team seeks an experienced content writer and editor to assist with content creation for a redesigned MBTA.com. This is a short-term, full-time contract position with an expected duration of 6 months, located onsite at the MBTA’s headquarters in Boston. The content writer will work collaboratively with the editorial and design teams to create copy for the new MBTA website and related digital communications, including website and in-app copy, signage, and marketing materials.


  • Writing site copy for MBTA programs, projects, and services
  • Editing other editorial team members’ work
  • Interacting with subject matter experts in MBTA departments to source and fact-check content
  • Consulting with other Customer Technology teams to create in-app copy, marketing emails, and other content
  • Assisting with website maintenance tasks using the CMS, including document remediation and uploads, page updates, and press release postings
  • Blogging about Customer Technology team projects and work
  • Other administrative and content creation tasks as needed

The ideal candidate will have experience creating and editing website copy, in-app copy, and/or marketing materials for enterprise or public sector organizations. High attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to translate complex information into easy-to-read content will be crucial for success. Comfort in technical environments and with user experience fundamentals will also be helpful.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, or a related field
  • 3+ years experience in editorial environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic HTML and content management systems, ideally Drupal
  • Understanding of SEO and web writing best practices
  • Familiarity with user experience principles
  • Ability to work independently
